omg, Kristi, we have a youthful (27?) friend who eats over every week. On the occasion that I've commented "sorry about the mess", he always replies that it doesn't phase him and I should see HIS room, blah blah. Anyway, so he came to a party once. And all my counters look like the counter "After" picture above when it's a party. So he walks in to the party and says nice and kind of loudly - wow Karla, I never knew you had a blue counter! Right in front of my sister. Thanks.

I have a counter that looks like that, too. Some people that come to my house on a regular basis have never seen the actual counter.
