Love, Sarah

We are almost halfway through 5th grade math so I think it is time once again to put our thinking caps on and tie them tight.

America's longest place name is
Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg.

This name for a lake near Webster, Massachusetts, is 45 letters long. It is a Native American name that means, "You fish on your side, I'll fish on mine, and no one fishes in the middle." Use this word to answer these questions.

What fraction of the word is made up of the letter g?
Write this fraction as a decimal.

There. In addition to math I do believe we covered a bit of Social Studies as well. Use it or lose it.

There are fifteen Gs, which is 15/45, or 1/3. As a decimal, it's .33 1/3.
Oy - I think I sprained my brain.

Great! I'll have Sarah copy down your answers before she skips off to school. You're the best.

Alright, but tell me you made up the name of the lake.
