Listen and Obey

Here's a newsflash. It's not all fun and games in Stream Land. My children are not characterized by first time obedience. In fact, I have a couple of very strong willed ones. They are not quiet, shy or compliant. I struggle with this all day, everyday. I am pretty sure I have said, "Listen to Momma the first time." everyday for 11 years now. I know parents that do have shy, quiet and compliant children struggle in other areas of parenting, I just cannot fathom what those areas could be. Everyone else looks like the Von Trapps.
I am very grateful that God has a plan. That His ways are not my ways. That as I raise my children, He is raising me.

When I think of awesome moms that I hope to grow up to be like, you are at the top of my list. (I'm not even kidding.)

You won't be singing the same tune when I am on Nanny 911 someday. :)
Thank you, babe.

Carla,
I love Nanny 911. Let the kids watch it with you. Sometimes they see themselves and that can be motivation for change in their behavior. I hope it works, for your sake. :)

It might be encouraging to know that the really tough, strong willed, hard-as-nails kids (oh yes, I've had some!) turn out REALLY well. Just keep pouring your love into them and using God's word as your guide. When they finally "get it", boy do they get it and it's SO PRECIOUS!!

I know it's work now, but the payoff will be worth it. I TOTALLY feel your pain and am shouldering up beside you.

When things slow down here in a couple weeks remind me to send you a couple of stories that include the 'happy ending' to the kind of trials those non-Von-Trapps take you through.

Thank you for the encouragement!!
I appreciate it very much especially from other moms in the trenches. Who knew parenting would be so hard and so wonderful??

I have been waiting for things to slow down here for years. Good luck with that. :)

Your words "I'm raising them while He's raising me" reminded me of what I used to tell my children, "Hey, we're all in this together. I'm a parent for the first time just like you are children for the first time!" I felt it would give them more realistic expectations of me if they realized I was an "amateur" too!
