Olympics

I am not watching. I am boycotting. I know...GASP! Because of China's human rights abuses and its forcibly aborting women who are 9 months along with their second child,(one child policy)I am not interested!

I read the article. Wow. My sister is leaving for China in a few weeks to teach there for another year.

Something I've heard about boycotts...to make sure you let whomever your boycotting know that you are boycotting, or it won't make a difference. (ie. call the companies who are sponsoring the Olympics, etc.)

It just makes a difference to me, ya know?

The Olympics does that? I had no idea.

Oh, CHINA--got it.
I need a nap.

I won't be boycotting, but I watched President Bush talking about human rights and that he believes there should be religious freedom in China. He was uncharacteristically eloquent and passionate. I was very, very proud of him.
I personally am choosing to support the American teams that are there as ambassadors of goodwill and human rights.
I appreciate your point of view, though, Carla. I've been thinking about it all day. Somehow you always manage to make me think about my convictions and the reasons I do things that may or may not take any thought. You have a gift, my friend.

Thanks Erin. :)
I can't stop thinking about my Chinese brothers and sisters over there being tortured, imprisoned and killed for their faith. Hence the post.

Wow. I am not getting the playful banter going am I? I am in trouble with myself.

Carla, good for you.

Have you read the book 'Safely Home' by Randy Alcorn? If not, you must. You must. It's fiction, but deals realistically with persecuted Christians in China, and is perhaps the most powerful book I have ever read.

Matthew has said we can't watch the Olympics here anymore. He's upset that Chinese families send their little 3-years olds to "gymnastics camp" and maybe see them once a year. He heard that from an announcer during the women's team comp. last night. I was just watching to support the US team though. Basically, I guess I'm just stating that I understand Carla's point, Erin's point and that the people of China need some prayers. It's all very sad really.

Erin, I too saw President Bush during that interview and was proud of what he said. Very nice.

I should get my own blog, sorry. :)

I think I agree with Kristi...It is not the Olympics that does that...It is China. So don't shop in China. I think by not watching the olympics you are just hurting Channel 11, whichever it is ABC or NBC, whatever.....

Another country would have been nice. I am not boycotting to hurt anyone. I am hardly making a dent in ratings, I am sure. I just asked myself why I wasn't watching it this year and blogged about it.

Peace out, peeps.

I'm not watching either. The government of China makes me want to puke.

Rebecca,
Tell me how you really feel. :)
