No Nuks

My babies never stayed with a Nuk for very long. They were usually spit out of the crib and found on the floor by mom in the morning. Joshua has never sucked his thumb or any other finger. Sarah sucks her thumb and rubs her raggy on her nose. Nathan sucks the index and middle fingers of his right hand and holds his blankies. Timothy sucks the index finger of his right hand and hangs onto his loveys for dear life. I am sure that I am supposed to be discouraging this type of behavior but it is endearing to me. Orthodontia will be a high price to pay for this kind of cuteness.

Been there, done that, got the retainers.
My thought is, as a thmb sucker myself and haveing raised one. THey'll quit when they are ready and not a minute before. It is only more traumatizing to the child to have their thumb/finger/elbow peppered, tied, covered in order to produce the correct behavior.
Let 'em suck, sistah!
Oh!
A Shel Silverstien nugget:
Oh the thumbsucker's thumb
may be wrinkled and wet and withered and white as the snow,
but the taste of the thumb
is the sweetest taste yet,
as only we thumbsucker's know.

Love Shel!
The sucking battle is one I choose not to fight. :)

I'm planning to teach my baby to suck its thumb if it isn't already.

Good Erin. Very good.

Thumbs don't get lost in the middle of the night which is handy. They are generally "findable". I never used a nuk or a thumb and my sister was a thumbsucker. We both needed braces. Have at it babies!

Orthodontia is a high price anyway. Suck away.

I have a finger sucker. She sucked her middle and ring finger on her left hand until she shut them in a screen door. Then it was too painful, so she switched to her pinky. Her pinky finger is actually curved now from all the sucking. My MIL is harping on me about it. But she's only three. So I'm letting her be.

I can't imagine how traumatic it would be to "take" it away. I suppose she'll give it up in time.
Glad to see others with the same philosophy! LOL!
