Freaky

On Wednesday of this week something really crazy happened. Not the usual craziness either. Some man came banging on our bay window, yelling and screaming for me to get him a phone! "I need a phone, get me a phone, I need to use your phone NOW! My parents dropped me off and I don't know where I am, get me a phone!!" I was a deer in headlights. For one thing it looked so much like my husband Patrick and I couldn't figure out why he was outside...for another why are you yelling at me?? I told Sarah to run lock the door and I would get Daddy. She was a fawn in headlights. Patrick ran out of the bedroom, locked the door and yelled at the man NO! The man sauntered away. Pat followed him in his car. I gathered the cherubs and tried to answer their questions. I don't know why he did that. I don't know why he was yelling. I explained that if someone really did need our help they might ring the doorbell, politely ask to use the phone, apologize for intruding, thank us for our help. Not try to scare us into doing what they want.....
The man was arrested by Taco John's. Apparently we were not the only neighbors he visited.

I am struggling with my What If thoughts...

Oh my gosh - it is always those what if thoughts, isn't it? That really is freaky. Glad you're all safe.

ps Either I wrote it and sent it and you haven't put it up, or I wrote it and did not send it (the latter, if I know me very well.) If I figure it out, I'll resend the reply about where my blog is from your post a day or 2 ago.

What's to what if? If he got arrested, then we can assume that he got the help he needed. If he was really in trouble, the police would check it out.

What an invasion. I'm glad doors were locked and Pat was home. Thank you for thinking so clearly. I hope the kiddos are okay with everything.

What if he broke into my house?

I didn't even know Taco John's had police powers! Thank goodness.

Carla, that is why every 4 x 40 needs a good pump action 12 gauge! For if they get in your house.(if you live in town 7 1/2 bird shot is fine, it will kill a human at 10 feet but wont penetrate your walls and hit your neighbor)
Thank God Pat was home, but what if he was not? Dialing 911 CANT save you. Cops come afterwards and make arrests and write reports. When all is said and done say NOTHING to the police except "my life was in danger" until you have your lawyer present.
As always, love your blog.

You can hang a picture of me where would-be intruders can see it...
guns, in the hand of the un-trained shooter usually end up being the weapon used against them. I don't like releasing pepper spray in a home and Fleet Farm sells some very attention-getting-and-keeping cattle prods. They are easy to use, incapacitate a bull and can subsequently be used to interview the intruder once they're wearing zip-cuffs. You might also consider having your house looked at by a St Croix County Sheriff deputy. I keep all my exterior doors squeaky and place unfriendly shrubbery outside of windows. Also available on the market is a very loud annunciator that you can switch on for the entire neighborhood to hear; that will cause psycho's and the ill-intentioned to run away. Finally, you can get a laser-pointer for your keychain and most people associate that with a cop gun.

Oh, by the way, I really admire the restraint that Pat showed; I'd have been on him like a mullet on a NASCAR fan.
