Socialization
This being Joshua's 15th day of public school I will let you know how his socialization is going. He has been called a "dufus", made to cry in the lunchroom(the kiss of death), told "You suck." teased about having a girlfriends phone number written on his hand, and also informed that one playmate asked an old lady for sex. I spent last night trying to reassure my son, "No, honey you don't suck!" As a homeschooling mom, that is pretty much the only question asked of me when I tell people I are one. "Don't you worry about socialization??!!" Then I begin my long list of extra curricular activities that Joshua is involved in and kick myself later. Why should I defend myself? Why do people think that when you homeschool you lock all the doors, pull the curtains and hang a sign on the door that says WE ARE NOT COMING OUT TILL MAY??!! I shouldn't waste my time on people that don't "get it" but I always feel the need to "educate" the less enlightened among us. I need a good one liner. I am fighting the urge to run to school and snatch my son from the aliens trying to suck out his brain. I am perfectly ok with him being "unsocialized" for a couple more years!!

Isn't that funny??!!! People always say that about homeschooled children, they won't be socialized. "Socialization" is the very reason I have panic attacks about sending my baby boy to public kindergarten next year. I'd prefer my baby to stay home with me FOREVER and be "unsocialized" actually. I've heard that doesn't seem to work out the way you think, I'll have to be brave and tough it out.
I know he'd stop a stranger on the street and lecture on the ills of smoking and becomes rather irrate when he sees un-buckled people in vehicles. I'll pray he may see the world as worldly and stay "unsocialized" even at public school.
