I was stumped by Sarah this morning. She was having a splashing party in the tub after lunch today and I told her to pull the drain. Instead of doing exactly that and listening to Mommy the first time, she wanted to know why she hadn't eaten lunch and when was I going to feed her? After telling her once again to pull the drain she told me she was ready for lunch. I try so hard not to ARGUE with my children and the POINT was......get out of the tub, girly whirly!! She pulled the drain, got out and then I began to explain that we had already eaten lunch. Let the whining begin...she didn't have dessert. She must have recognized my no-nonsense voice. I told her to get dressed! Just what is the task at hand, people? I tell Cherub #1 to brush his teeth and then I move on to dishes or shoes and socks on or jackets all the while assuming Cherub #1 has brushed and it is Cherub #2's turn in the bathroom. Alas, Cherub #1 has NOT brushed but did manage to fill the sink to float some action figure and save the day. (Cherub #3 has already wandered outside at this point.) I sound like a broken record all day..Listen to Mommy the first time, Obey Mommy the first time.
Makes me wonder if thats what God thinks about me too...Listen, to Your Lord the first time, Carla!!

My four-year-old has the same listening disability. I do believe it is an inherited trait, unfortunately. I'm banking on the fact that God's love for me is bigger than even my love for my "Cherubs" and therefore doesn't get as frustrated with me as I do with my boy. Ya think?
