A Friend Indeed
As my son enters 3rd grade in a public school I have been thinking about my experiences in school. What sticks out most in my mind was that I was a shy girl. Painfully shy and I only wanted to disappear much of the time. I found a friend in a boy named Albin. He was Native American and just the nicest boy ever! I remember how he would walk in line with me to music and gym and we would eat lunch together and play at recess. He invited me to his birthday party. He didn't seem to mind a bit when our classmates all chimed in to tease..."Albin and Carla sittin in a tree." Oh, you know the rest!! We were buddies all through 2nd grade and then he transferred to another school. He obviously touched a schoolgirls' heart if I can still remember his name! Joshua knows the story but, isn't much for details as he asks," Hey, mom tell me about that Indian kid with the funny name!" Albin, please ignore my son. You were so nice to me and I will always be thankful to you for our friendship.
