Whenever I get hurt I do not hop around, hold my breath or swear. I cry like a baby. I have observed children for many years now and I think they are onto something. They simply cry!! Wailing loudly, tears streaming down their faces, hardly able to talk, let alone take a breath...and then a band aid and a kiss the boo-boo and they are off and running again.
Joshua konked me in the mouth with his melonhead once as I was going to kiss him goodnight. My two front teeth ripped my lip open and the crying ensued. I did have to tell Joshua, "Wow, that hurt, buddy, but I know it was an accident."
I was trying to weigh Sarah and as I looked over the top of her head to check the numbers, she jumped up and I bit my tongue.....hard!! More crying out of me...
Just yesterday, Nathan whacked me across the bridge of the nose with a stick. I had my sunglasses on so Patrick couldn't tell right away that I was crying...but I was and then Mommy was "all better."
I happen to think that "letting it out" helps. Try it next time you take a Matchbox car to the forehead.
