Strong Willed Lad

Those that have quiet, shy, compliant children may not understand this post. For that I ask for your forgiveness. My children are not quiet, shy or compliant. It is what it is. This morning was a fine example. Tims is working on asking politely to be excused from the table when he is done eating. Well, one of the hundreds of things he is working on. He refused to do this at breakfast. I asked him to sit at the table until he asked to be excused. How dare I?? He cried, screamed, whined, stomped and looked like he was going to make a break for it. He didn't. That is progress.
20 minutes of Tim Time and I heard a small voice ask to be excused. Yes, you may, my favorite Tim.

I used to feel like an ogre for doing this when Travis was little, but it works -and they do learn. Eventually. As I'm sure you know, Carlamom! :)

One good thing about having older children is that you know how quickly this stage passes. Of course, when you are in the midst of this stage, it drags and progress feels painfully slow. As the twig is bent. . . You are doing your part to help the tree grow strong and tall!

HAHA - kids! I watched Secretariat and those children asked to be excused - I even think I had to ask. I think my kids needed to ask too ... humm - that's a good thing to teach them. :)

Hi Carla!
You're doing great! Want a laugh? Try putting his homework on the table, or a load of laundry to fold. You'll get to laugh as he excuses himself and runs away. :) A little humor in these situations goes a long way in preserving your sanity. (I have a very strong-willed one myself.)

great word verification word:

It is why I blog, Janet. He did look pretty cute in his refusal and his inner wrestling to do the right thing! :)

If I do not find the humor in this life, I will lose my mind.

Carla,
You certainly do find the humor in life and we are lucky for it! Thanks for blogging!

Carla - that's a wonderful, small (Tims-sized) reminder of God's love and patience with us when we refuse to be obedient. Thanks for sharing!
