Joshua has a states and capitols test coming up. We studied tonight. The former teacher in me loves to whip up some practices tests and matching worksheets! We also practiced with some oral drills. They went something like this.
Mom "Joshua, what is the capitol of Vermont?"
Josh "Topeka?"
Mom "No."
Josh "Olympia?"
Mom. "Nope."
Josh "Bismarck?"
Mom "No, Josh."
Josh "Charleston?"
Mom "Um, no."
Josh "Montpelier?"
Mom "Yes."
Josh "YYYEEESSSSSSS!!!"

LOL, sounds like me when I was little. I loved history more than anything else in this world though.
Ahh, 5th grade. The only ones that really stuck (besides those with the same name--Indiana, Indianapolis) were VerMONT, MONTpelier and "FRANK and KENT went to FORT UCKY". Twenty-five years ago my then new husband was appalled that I didn't know them all and gave me a list to memorize. I finally gave him the twelve months of the year and their birthstones and said when he memorized 12 I'd work on the 50. That was that.
Montpelier is the capitol of Vermont? Boy I'm rusty.
When your eldest is in 5th grade you will get a crash course, KJ! :)
I know all of the states and capitols although I get confused with East and West Carolina and North and South Virginia.
Awwww! That's great!! :) I remember taking that test in fifth grade. I got them all right. But now, I could use some serious refreshing before I could get 50/50 again.
