Why Ask?

Last week at Aldi Schmaldi I was unloading all of the groceries from the cart for their scanning procedure. The Aldi Associate asked me if I had found everything. I said no and told her I couldn't find the cream. She continued scanning and I was distracted by The Littles and their Skittles. I paid and bagged and loaded all of it into the van and it wasn't until I was driving that I realized that our conversation was left hanging. Did she really care that I hadn't found everything? Was she going to go get me some cream? Was she just making conversation? Maybe that was her attempt at Playful Banter. I totally missed it.

She meant had you found everything you needed in life. Since you said only cream was missing, she figured there were other people were more deserving of her attention.

Was she smiling? That's how you tell if it's playful banter.

She was smiling at first. But then she wasn't. Then she was when I paid. Then she wasn't.

TRT,
Good to know.

Wben I went into that store a while back, I told the associate that I had not been able to find God. She told me He was in aisle 10. And 9. And 8. And 7 . . .

Aldi Schmaldi - I must live too far west - by the looks of that cashier - maybe it's a good thing. She probably needs to be prayed for.
As for cream - seems like the follow up would be - what type of cream, heavy, whipped, 1/2 & 1/2, condensed milk???
Since you didn't get that - I suppose the question was just an external tic ... :)

It's just called Aldi. I call it Aldi Schmaldi to lessen the pain of going there to do The Aldi Shuffle.

Lunching with co-workers, we had a bad experience at a normally good restaurant. So, when I was paying and the cashier said, "Was everything all right?", I told her what had gone wrong. Deer caught in the headlights look. Stammering. I think I saw a cold sweat as I walked away.

Conclusion. Sometimes they are told to ask the question, but they aren't told what to do if everything WASN"T okay! Short sighted on the part of management -- not good customer relations.
