I volunteered yesterday at the McCain/Palin 08 Republican headquarters. I was signed up for the phone banks. Let me just say that rudeness reaches across party lines. Rudeness reaches across the aisle. I had 3 quick questions to ask folks. These are my favorite responses.
1. I have company right now. Click.
2. You called me yesterday. Click.
3. I have a kid in the tub. Click.
4. None of your business. Click.
5. What? Who is this? Click.
6. I don't answer to you. Click.
7. If you call me one more time. Click.
Yikes. A simple yes or no would suffice. Let me tell you I have an awesome phone voice as I worked for AT&T once!("AT&T Teleconference Center, this is Carla. How may I help you?") I was kind, respectful, even cheerful. Oh. Yeah. Some of those clicks were mine.

Oh you sly fox, you. My blood started to percolate until the last line when I busted out laughing!!
Patience, my friend. :)
I have worked phone banks when we were active in the GOP here, and it is probably my least favorite volunteer job. But, somebody had to do it, so why not me?! Good for you for doing it.
I can't read your blog now, I have a child in the tub and I'm washing my hair and I don't answer to you anyway.
Thank you for doing what few people want to do. You are a faithful woman. Sarah Palin should come to your house and give you a squeeze.
I think these calls wouldn't be so bad if a person didn't get 5-8 per day, including multiple recorded ones from Dish, it does become irritating when you have to answer every call because it might be your kids....
Thanks for your work Carla, you do make a difference, I wish you could put a letter in the RF paper...it is all slanted democratic. People need more education on BO's ideas....
Name of paper please. I will get something off to them. Seriously.
Caral, I like you and would love for you to call me. :)
ps If their baby is in the tub....um, why are they answering the phone in the first place?
Oh, by the way...that last comment was for "Carla" not "Caral". Just so we're clear.
I used to work in a call center. I would call alumni of my university and ask for money. Whenever we had alumni that were married we had to ask for them both. For example, "may I please speak with joe or mary?" My personal favorite was this response..... "ummm we're actually in the shower right now" Click... haha
Jana,
I love it! A phone in the shower!
The River Falls Journal, it's in a pinch though...I think Letters to the Editor have to be in by a certain time on Monday...It needs to be good and POWERFUL Anti-Obama, we have had way too much Anti-McCain crap, from a liberal lesbian journalist that works for the paper...arg. And she bikes by my house with her partner, hope she hates my 8 foot McCain sign.
Done. Hopefully it will make it in! :)
huh, Jana. That's my sister's uncommon name.
And, I'm lucky to live near a conservative newspaper that I enjoy reading. Couple of prolife and Catholic writers on staff. Who write about those issues in a positive light. Refreshing.
Karla with a K,
How does your sister pronounce it? My is pronounced like Jan a... does that make sense? Jana like Jana Banana.. it rhymes!! Sometimes people call me Jane a.
anywho... I was going to say last night that I thought Wisconsin was a pretty liberal state, which would explain why the articles and editorials lean that way.
Carla... you live in Wisconsin right? Is it getting cold where you are... I'm in Minnesota and I can tell winter is on its way. YUK!
Jana Banana
I am right across the St. Croix River in WI. It's a balmy 50 degrees today! Meh. I grew up in ND and winter here hardly fazes me. Bring it!!
Thanks Carla:)
BTW...Great comment count on this one! Whoo Hoo
Jana Banana,
My sister's is pronounced the same. Unfortunately, our grade school principle's name was Mr. Manna (yes, you can only imagine those rhymes.)
Funny thing is, no-one could EVER get it right. Jane a, Jan, Janice, Janet, Jenna. And all before Jenna was even popular.
So she had to resort to "Jana, like banana."
Oh, and ladyd, "hope she likes my 8 foot McCain sign."
haha
Unfortunately, CT is a democratic state, too. But there are some holdouts.
Don't feel too bad - I'm getting the same thing! We'll all get through this!:)
nutmeg,
Yes, we will make it!!
Karla,
Did I know you were in CT?? I was a nanny in West Redding!
Karla,
That is to funny because i myself resort to Jana, like Jana Banana! hahaha wow small world.
Carla,
I grew up in Minnesota so I am prepared for winter but really don't want it to come. haha...
Jana,
I hear ya about winter. I do love the sledding and hot chocolate and those big white fluffy snowflakes, whiskers on kittens, warm woolen mittens...these are a few of my favorite things.
Carla how I wish you were the one calling our house. And not the automated Obama calls. ;)
Thanks for volunteering!
butrfly,
Email me your phone# and I would be more than happy to give you my schpiel. :)
schpeel? schpeil?
Carla,
I didn't have your email - hope you get this.
