Dearest Elderly Woman,
You have made it abundantly clear that you do not appreciate the vocalizations of my youngest. The first time he was shrieking in anger and you covered your ears while giving me a dirty look. Today he squealed with delight and you covered your ears while giving me a dirty look. I have smiled and apologized both times to no avail. I suggest that the next time you see us coming you turn your hearing aids to OFF.
Love,
Carla
Dearest Self,
I solemnly swear that when I become an Elderly Woman I shall sympathize with all younger mothers and their cherubs. I will not soon forget how hard it is in the trenches with cherubs.
Love,
Carla

Thanks, Self.
Don'tcha know, Back in the day they did not have naughty children.
Unless perhaps that is the reason for her hearing aids.
Maybe the awful face is her just reliving the past.....
You are very brave to go shopping with kids, I rarely do~
I say grab a pair of earmuffs and hand them to her next time you see her in the store.
That oughta do it.
Methinks she could also avoid Aldi around 9am on a Thursday.
Um, the (OLDER) priest at the church where we sometimes attended the daily mass - when the kids were younger - once asked us on our way in if he was going to need to turn down his hearing aids, or would we please sit in the .. crying room? viral germination room? whatever it's called.
We obliged. I thought he was rude. But I also realize my kids could fidget, and I'm sure with some added volume it could sound like someone's crinkling a 10# bag of cellophane in your eardrum when you're trying to turn the bread and wine into Jesus' body and blood.
I laughed pretty hard when we got in the car. Mainly at his blunt boldness.
Sometimes he would give us a dirty look (SOME times, my kids can be challenging). And I would just try to remember to pray for the grouchy priest.
You're right. She could pick a different day.
I've heard comments at church like. "Oh, your children are so active, they keep me awake during church!"
Um, is that a nice way of saying, they are interrupting your naptime? Too bad!
I already sympathize. I'm almost up to a 4 year old as my youngest and I try to just look away when a little one is screamin. I've been there. I just wanted people to look away! Look away!
