2nd Grade

I am on dangerous ground. A momma skating on thin ice.

Sarah had homework twice this week. A worksheet of addition and subtraction facts. Piece of pie for you and I but my girlywhirly was struggling. She took her paper out on both days and started. Whining. She started whining. "Whhhhhyyyyy do I have to do thiiiiiiissssss? I don't haftaaaaa! I don't wannnnaaaaa! I don't knooooowwwww these!" It took every ounce of patience I had to be patient. I came up with something! "Sarah, for every row you finish, Mommy will give you 5 M & M's." So now Mommy had homework. 8 rows of facts, 7 facts in each row...let's see...carry the 1, add the 9, divide by 2. The girl whipped through those problems like nothing!
Sarah now expects NAY, demands chocolate for every paper she brings home! Henceforth her philosophy is if we do it once we do it now and forever. And ever. Amen. At least until she leaves for college.

I disagree.

Soon you'll tell her about acne and "chocolate for papers" will come to an end.

Ahh - M&Ms: the universal pacifier. They recommend bringing them (and bubbles) to the orphanage to smooth our first meeting with our daughter... Wonder what kind of precedent that's setting?? :-)

Be careful with the little choclatey morsels. Too many and you need cheese.

When I was younger, I insisted that I did NOT have to do my homework, because I was going to be an actress. My Mom tried to convince me that even actresses have to know math.

Now I am a really famous actress and I only use math to count my money. Oh wait...nope, I work in finance.

Thanks Mom!

A famous financier reads my blog? Sweet! Moms do sometimes know what is best don't they?

Forget the kids! This is how I get myself through some days. 2 ditry diapers = 1 piece of Dove chocolate. 1 load of laundry = 1 diet coke. You get the picture.
