See You Soon

Our sweet neighbor, Grandma Jean has moved to her new apartment. She showed up on Monday with the usual pastries and day old breads and it warmed my heart. After 35 years in one house one can accumulate mucho stuff. She asked me to take in quite a bit of her stuff. Sorry, Pat. I am sorry about the huge box of fabric to have and to hold and never use, the broken tv, the 35 year old rugs, the assorted and bulky Christmas decorations, the bag after bag of twin sheets, the huge supply of wooden clothes pins and the stuffed animals.(ugh) I want to keep a piece of my Grandma Jean around.
"Hey Carla could you use this? Would you want this? Say, I thought you might like this! Do you want it for Sarah? Do you need one of these?"
Yes, Grandma Jean. Yes.

I know it won't be the same, but can you go and visit her? Is her apartment close by? I remember having neighbors, as a little girl, that were our "adoptive grandparents". Our real grandparents lived in Milwaukee so it was so special to have that type of relationship close by. I bet you all made Grandma Jean feel special, too.

I too kept some strange stuff from my grandma. Stuff I know I will never have a use for. I also kept some stuff that just smelled like my grandma. I swear I feel like I am 10 again when I close my eyes and smell her smell.
