Get Over Here

Have you ever been to a home and you have to wonder when you walk in if anyone really lives there? Is it a museum or a dwelling place of friends? A place for everything and everything in it's place. I guess.
I consider myself a hospitable person. I long to have people over and hang out with food and conversation. I do much better when friends just pop over. They can look around and judge our mess as they see fit. If you have children I think that pretty much covers all crayon portraits on the walls, crumbs, spills, and toys strewn about. I can usually clear a path to the couch and there we can sit and gab. When it comes to inviting people over I go a little psycho. Ask my husband. Scrub all walls, floors, children, paint the bathroom, add a skylight, recarpet and suck up every possible offending speck. Why? I dunno.
Have you ever been to a home that is lived in? Piles of stuff everywhere, books and toys, papers and laundry. I once moved the towels, stuffed animals and dog out of the way to sit down on the couch. Felt just like home.

I love ya my dear Carla! This week you have validated my lack of cardio movement and my "lived-in" home. I too tend to renevate the house when guests are invited. When people pop-in I tend to say, oh well this is just life.

I could use some new carpet. I'm having you over. Is that how it works?

i am so there! but i don't go crazy when i know that people are coming over! i just make sure the toilet is clean :)
learning the difference between hospitality and entertaining can be difficult. with 4 kids though (i have 4 as well) you learn it quickly. people can crunch the cheerios on the carpet. if they don't like it, they can keep their shoes on!! :)
GREAT SITE...love it...may i link to it from my blog?

I love this post! You are so right. I'm the same way though. I love going to homes that are lived in but when I know others are coming over I start cleaning like a madwoman. It seems like no how hard I try, I need to just accept that clutter is now a part of my life!
