Banshee Boy

I brought That Kid to the grocery store today. I didn't mean to. I mean he was in a good mood when we left the house. Honest. Can it be another post about Nathan? Yes, it can! He wanted to walk in the store. I said no and provided him with a cart that had a car attached. Pretty cool from a Momma's point of view. He sat. He screamed. He screamed through the whole store. My favorite part was when he screamed, "Are you gonna spank me Mom?" My other favorite part was the folks who don't know a temper tantrum when they see one. One shopperlady even looked high and low for the source of the offensive sound. I should have pointed at my creature and said, "He's here. Yeah, right here." I would have appreciated a smile. I mean I could use some encouragement here, people. A red rose at the door for not losing my cool? Is that too much to ask? We made it to the checkout and the treats and I braced myself for the next big snit. NO you may not have a treat. He asked why. I told him he chose his behavior. He chose to flip out in the store. He actually dealt with that. Even while I picked Peanut Butter M & M's for myself.(microwave on high for 49 seconds...heaven)We did it. We got the job done. I did however forget muffin mix and 7-grain bread. I might just have to go it alone for those.

Do you use them as a substitute for hot glue or something? My stars they must be warm...

There was a woman in the same predicament behind me at the store one time. This was while my young ones were still youngish. I felt her pain.

I endured the noise, her flushed face and her completely defeated demeanor through the check-out. When I was finished, I went around her cart, squeezed her shoulder and told her I understood and good for her that she didn't give in.

I think she was going to cry.

WAY TO HANG IN THERE, MOM!

Do you have to eat them with a spoon? I have one of those "kids" as well...two sweet little chocolate girls. Shopping with them is always an experience. I have the diaper bag loaded with Dum Dums. Keeps them quiet for a time...unless they drop it...then..well...that's why I bought the jumbo bag at Target. I'll share.

Melts in your mouth, not in your hands.

Is your microwave from 1982? Mine would blow up my kitchen at that much time.....kinda scary thinkin we put things in there and then digest them huh? My dad always said, "I hate microwave popcorn. It tastes like electricity." I think he's right. Another note about grocery shoppers: I was rolling out of the store a couple years ago with Levi on top of the car-cart. This lady gave me this "look." She had a little toddler all dressed perfectly in her arms. I smiled and said, "see what you have to look forward to?" She sneered at me and said, "not in this family." I think shes eatin her words by now-or maybe I hope she is! Ha ha!

oh yes, the "are you going to spank me?" question!! I hate, walking through Chick Fil A to the bathroom, definitely on my way to spank him and he's sobbing and asking THAT question. As if he doesn't know the answer!!!! By the way, my "he" is a, yep you guessed it, 3 year old boy!!!

Feeling your pain,
Brandi

My guys figured out that the grocery store was free reign for misbehaving until we abandoned the cart and headed out to the van for the spanking. I've only had to do it twice. The good thing about a big family is that they share the story with the younger ones!
