Signs

I have taught our Streamers how to sign. When they learn more, please, thank you and all done it is just the best! They have all learned by 8 or 9 months, except for Timmers. He has poked along, whining and fussing his way through life. But this week our one year old signed more! I was thrilled beyond belief and started to cry, as I have done with all those that have gone before. It is an amazing journey and learning to communicate always gets to me. Kinda, sorta like Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller. But not really.

You make me smile. It helps to slow down, enjoy and remember all the special milestones. Thanks. Oh... and way to go Mr.Timothy!!

Way to go Annie! And good job to "Helen", too. I just attended a "Baby Signs" parent workshop last week so we can use this with Gabe. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks. (I can't believe I just called myself an old dog.) Just 'cause the first ten made it without signing doesn't mean I have to accept baby frustration with this guy. I wish I'd known about it 20 years ago. We made up our own ways to communicate, but hearing "Ahhhhh" yelled at me for every bite got a bit tiring.

Gabe's first "word" was lifting his arms to be picked up. His sister was walking by and he raised his arms to her. (I cried, too.) I knew then that it was time to get serious about helping him communicate.

You are not an old dog Keithslady and you will be thankful for the investment of time for Gabers!!

Woof!

I'm at UW Madison Hospital with Gabe. He had tonsils and adenoids out today. Rough day but started nursing early evening and is resting peacefully. Praise the Lord!
