Vacation

There is no school today or tomorrow. The chilluns are loving that. I, on the other hand am struggling with how to keep all of them occupied. Playing in the snow has captured their attention for now. A neighbor boy came over at 10:30 to play. Am I a mean mom to tell all of them to stay outside? I can barely deal with the cherubs God has entrusted to me, let alone the other strays. I told the boy that they could all play outside for a bit and then I would send him home. He said, "But, Mrs. Stream I don't have to be home until 1:00.

Presumably, his mother expects you to feed this little person lunch, too?

I had a neighbor like that. I'd grit my teeth and try to think of the stories of poor orphaned children being taken in by kindly Christians and try to play act that it was me (being the kindly one). What started as a 7 year old arriving for breakfast and spending much of the day including going to church with us at times, turned into seeing nothing of her for months or even a year at a stretch, to finally a 13 year old running to me for protection from an abusive family situation and having the opportunity to witness the salvation of Jesus Christ. The family moved a year and a half ago, but I'm thankful that God pushed me through the resentful early years with her to establish a trust in her that let her know a safe haven in her time of trouble. I continue to pray that God will bring the work that started here to fruition.
