At the church we attend, the cherubs are in the nursery until they turn 4 and then they go to Childrens Church until they turn 6. Sarah turned 6 and last Sunday was the first time she joined Mommy, Daddy and Joshua in the pew. (WAIT-my church does not have pews. We have interlocking chairs. Besides, the word pew is ishy.) I did my best to show Sarah the ropes by whispering the ins and outs of our service. "No, you just went to the bathroom. Please stand up with Mommy and listen to the music. Shhhhhh. Please sit down. You may have one mint. No, no more mints. Shhhhhh. No, I do not have a pencil. Yes, you may borrow this pen. Nice picture. Yes, I do like it very much. Shhhhhh. Please stop waving to your friends. Stop kicking the chair please. Shhhhhh. No, you may not sit by Josh. No, it's not almost done. It's time to pray. Please close your eyes and fold your hands. Shhhhhh. Shhhhhh. Shhhhhh."
I know it will take some time before she "gets it." It took Joshua quite awhile. With him it was bathroom issues. We would tell him to be back in 2 minutes. He would come back after 12, reeking of Glade air freshener spray. Country Garden scent. Pew.

My brother used to get his ear yanked a lot in church for that sort of thing. To this day he's weird about his hears. Go figure.
I seem to remember too that air freshener was in the womens bathroom - that is what always got me.
I forgot that!! Ah, to be a young lad and wander into the ladies room to spray on your favorite scent....
Does this mean the mens room does not carry air freshener?
What for?
I remember these times. Our children lived in fear of "taking a walk" As in: "Do we need to take a walk, or are you going to behave?" They knew what waited at the end of the walk. Oh another one I used, "If I have to take you out of here, you are going to regret your behavior." Worked every time--after the first one of course.
