My daughter Sarah has allergies. I have been trying for the longest time to pinpoint the exact cause of her reaction. It has had me stumped only because the reaction can become quite severe- yelling, screaming, flailing, pounding and a sudden loss of all sense. She is highly allergic to the word NO.

Have you also noticed that what really produces a whopper of a reaction is "No" combined with an unrealistic desire for a "Yes". For instance, if she asks, "Do I really have to go to bed NOW?" and you say, "No", I'm guessing you don't get the allergic reaction, even if she's expecting to have to go to bed. However, if she gets the idea that she'd like a popsicle--like when she is very happily going about her business without a popsicle, but happens to see some kid with pink hair riding no handed on a bike past the house eating a popsicle--and she asks you for one and you say, "No", then I'll bet you get the reaction. Am I right? See, I bet it's a combined allergic reaction. Aren't you just happy she's not asking to dye her hair pink....?

In all of my clinical mommy trials I get pretty much the same reaction. God made Sarah just for me!!!
I like to say "we'll see" or "maybe" and just hope they forget about it.
