It Could Happen

After much prayer and consideration 5 years ago, Pat and I decided I should stay home with the chicks, so I left the teaching profession. We try hard to make it on one income and have done without things that we want. God has given us everything we need. It has been blood, sweat and tears for me as a stay at home mom! No need to fear, my daughter Sarah always finds a way to keep me humble. She asked yesterday, "When do I get to go to daycare?!"

Alas, I've had children gaze longingly out the window as we passed the colorful daycare play yards. Somehow they didn't come programmed to know that those yards are for unfortunate little children who are sadly shuffled off to be cared for by "strangers". Don't they know how blessed they are to be home with Mom helping clean house, do laundry, make beds, and benefit from playing with mud pies and discovering worms while digging in the garden rather than playing with a fun group of peers on jungle gyms and finger painting on easels?

Part of our sacrifice is putting up with the ingratitude. However, by the time they're Joey's age the benefits and appreciation start rolling in. Just wait....only about 15 more years.

I'm up for it. I need some good homeschooling in the trenches advice for the years ahead when I will be multischooling/mental. Let's pick her brain. When can you come for a visit?

Joey's working on getting me over there. Maybe while my husband and teens go fishing in Canada in a couple of weeks.... Why don't I go to Canada? Four years ago I took a 10,000 mile round trip "vacation" for 12 to Alaska. I endured 4 weeks of tent camping, rain, mosquitoes the size of dragon flies, grizzly bear precautions, theft of a tent and all of my cooking equipment, 2 weeks without running water, three pre-schoolers (including a nursing infant), and four teenagers, and a husband bent on fishing every lake and river north of Calgary. I have nothing else to prove.

Amen Keithslady! Let me know when I should put the coffee pot on!

Also we can talk about how we have paid our dues for the camping thing and don't have to do it anymore. Ahhhh...

I so hear that! Collin used to beg to go to daycare cuz that's where all of his friends would go after school. I used to have to deal with the whining, trying to explain to him how much more fun it was to come home and play with his own toys, etc., all afternoon! Just like when they want glasses, braces and all the other 'cool' things their friends have...until they have them! Then they don't want them so much. Ah, the human condition.
