My two eldest children are in Awana on Wednesday nights at our church. It's a time to fellowship with friends, say the Bible verses they have memorized and then do wild and crazy games. My husband is a director so he is gone as well. WOW-I am almost alone in my house! Nathan and I bond.
When Joshua was a Spark(grades K-2) we worked hard on getting those Bible verses into his head. I sang them, I whispered them, I prompted him, coached him and drilled him. One or both of us usually ended up in tears!! Short of a hammer I didn't know how to make them stick in his brain. Why the psychotic drive for perfection? Well, to earn the Sparky Award of course!! After 3 years and 3 books finished, Joshua stood up in front of his peers and accepted his well deserved award! I was so proud! When he got back to his seat beside me I asked, "Where is MY Sparky award??!!"

I used to feel bad I didn't "know" scripture well enough to qoute anything from memory. Little did I know that I'd get the chance to be an AWANA mom. Isaiah hasn't earned the Sparkie award as he's just a little cubbie right now but, I tell ya I can zoom right through the first six bear hugs like nothing.
